Exploring Seville

Two days in one, because we didn't do a lot on our first day in Seville other than catch a train and go to a Flamenco show.

We got ourselves to the train station fairly easily, though it did require changing to a different bus than the one we planned because the bus we wanted was coming later than we anticipated and we'd spent a bit more time getting out of the apartment because we had to take stuff to the bins and return the coffee maker and the clothes airer.

It also took us a bit longer to get on the train because they've really upped the security at smaller regional stations as well - so we had to scan our bags and show our passports. But we got there, and off we went.

The view from the train window.

The countryside made me think of Australia.

After arriving, waiting for our apartment to become available and having lunch, we went for a wander.

We weren't far from the Metropol Parasol, a huge wooden structure in the middle of town.

Some more wandering.

Dinner - tapas and sangria.

Oh, and then churros - the first we'd managed to have in Spain. Either couldn't find a place that had them, or weren't hungry when we did, or didn't have time.

The venue for the Flamenco. It was two singers, a guitarist and three dancers - two women and a man. Sadly, we couldn't take pictures. But it was excellent - I'd forgotten just how much intense tap dancing was involved.

Saw this on a building nearby.

Day 2. Up and about because we'd booked a walking tour that started at 10.30.

The cathedral; we'd be back here later.

Now on the walking tour.

Torres del Oro, with our guide Julio.

Lots of horse-drawn carriages here. Which is probably why it smells like Vienna.

I think the tour had finished by now. We some people doing Flamenco in the streets.

Now we visit Real Alcazar.

They have peafowl there.

Very high walls.

After that we went straight to the Seville Cathedral, and the first thing we did was climb the tower. Unlike in Valencia, where they have a great system to keep the numbers under control, here it's just a free-for-all. And it's very annoying.

Good views, though.

Back inside.

Creepy religious art!

Weird breast-feeding sculptures!

The tomb of Christopher Columbus is here.

"I challenge you to a duel. Your choice of weapon is the sword or...the ball."

They kicked us out around this point because a service was happening. So, we went to find food.

Dinner - more tapas. Not pictured: the plate of prawns we'd somehow ordered but didn't know how to say we didn't want. Rochelle ate them.

Then we went back to the Parasol and got a lift to the top - you need tickets for that, and we'd bought them earlier in the day.

Some excellent views of Seville by night.

And there ends our second night in Seville.
